First off I’d just like to clear up the differences between this (the Ployer Momo9 2) and the Ployer Momo9. Despite having a ’2′ on the end and being a newer model than the Ployer Momo9, this actually has a slightly slower processor (1GHz rather than 1.2Ghz). The reason for this is that it uses an ‘Allwinner A13′ processor which apparently doesn’t support anything higher than 1Ghz. The Ployer Momo9 meanwhile uses the A10 which despite being older has no such limitations. They used the A13 in this one primarily because it’s cheaper to make. However on the flip side, this tablet (the Ployer Momo9 2) has battery saving technology, which while I don’t know the ins and outs of what it does, seems to work fairly well as the battery lasts a decently long time, which is rare on these cheap Chinese tablets. According to Ployer’s site this is also built around Android 4.0 (the latest version), which means that despite the slightly lower spec, it actually performs better. I don’t know if this is true or just marketing nonsense, but I have noticed that I seem to be able to use it while charging, whereas there have been reports that the Momo9 is almost unusable while plugged into the charger, so there may be some truth in it.

Okay, now onto the main review:

I’d been looking for a decent sub- £100 tablet for a long time and after a lot of research I finally took the plunge on this one. So far I’m impressed. Here’s a general run down of positives and negatives:

    Positives:

-Decent battery life (can get a day or more out of it with moderate use).
-Capacitive screen. It works well and it really is 5 point as claimed. On a side note don’t even bother getting a tablet that doesn’t have a capacitive screen, you’ll almost certainly regret it.
-No slowdown when web browsing or using most apps. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2, which is substantially higher end than this and for most everyday tasks this is almost as smooth.
-Comes with Ice Cream Sandwich. This is another thing that’s almost essential in an android tablet, but some of the cheaper ones use an older version of Android.
-Build quality. I don’t know what it’s like inside, but it looks solid and well made. The only caveat to that is that some of the physical buttons are a bit flimsy, but you don’t need to use them anyway as everything can be controlled on screen.

    Negatives:

-The screen is only 800×600, which is quite low resolution for a 7 inch device. It’s basically fine, but nowhere near as sharp as it could be. The viewing angles also aren’t great- you need to be pretty much central to it to get a clear image, which is fine for personal use, but if for example two of you want to play a game together or watch something on it it’s not so ideal.
-It struggles with some of the more graphically intensive games. Most stuff is fine, but if you plan to do a lot of gaming you’ll want something with a bit more power.
-Power adapter looks shoddy. I suspect this is more down to the company I bought it from, but the power adapter that I got with it for the Chinese plug looks low quality so I’ve bought myself a different one.

All in all it’s a great tablet for the price. I have a lot of experience with both Android and IOS and i’m really impressed with this. I know my way around Android and everything seems to work fine and generally quite smoothly. It obviously isn’t a high end tablet, but you’re not going to get that in this price range, but for what it cost you couldn’t ask for more. I’ve only had it a few days and my main concern at the moment is whether it will still be working a year down the line, as these cheap tablets tend to be pretty shoddy, but it looks solid enough and has had no problems so far.

A couple of other notes that may be of use to some people:

You can connect a USB stick to it and access media directly from that, you can also plug most other USB devices into it (keyboards, mice etc) using the adapter that comes with it and everything I’ve tried has worked fine. I also bought myself a 7 inch keyboard and case for it that does a great job of turning it into almost a netbook. I haven’t tried plugging in anything that requires an external power supply though.

On the off chance you have a wired internet connection it can connect through ethernet if you buy an adapter.

To get a MicroSD card to stay in you have to push it a long way into the slot, further than I could manage with my fingers, and at first I thought the slot was broken. I ended up using a key to do it and once in it works fine.

You can’t get to the battery (well it looks like you might be able to unscrew the back, but there’s no easy access anyway). Not much of a problem (Apple devices don’t let you near the battery either), but it does mean that if the battery wears out it might be a pain to replace.

I bought the momo9 ii from DracoTek, it took 12 Days from the day of dispatch (took one day to dispatch upon ordering) from china to my doorstep in Essex, so if you choose to buy this product from china, it will require patience, i however am not, and so i emailed DracoTek, it was replied in 24 hours, on a WEEKEND, Dracotek has a very good customer service who helped me track my package. now on to the tablet.

its obviously a cheap tablet, but i must say, it surely doesnt feel or function like one.

-it uses an arm cortex A13 1Ghz processor, a newer downgrade from the A10, this however confers an advantage as it has battery saving capabilities. it uses the GPU 400 Mali for graphics, if you think that a 1Ghz processor isnt enough, i suggest you buy a much higher end tablet (even ipad runs on 1Ghz A5 processor). The only downside is that some intensive 3D games may not be compatible for this tablet (i suspect the new ics is to blame as it is relatively new, but updates are on it way!!)

-runs on new ICS operating system, the momo9 originally runs on the gingerbread version, thus i am unsure of its compatability, but so far only a few lags and such, but not enough to annoy me. i dare say i runs almost smoothly on ics.

    - battery of 4500mAh, tested this tablet and runs an average of 24hrs from 99% battery to 5% battery life, in which the tablet automatically shuts down. This is to prevent excessive discharge from Lithium battery, which damages it. a note that the manual will ask the user to charge the tablet for 8hours upon first use of the tablet, this should not be done and carrying this out may damage the batteries.

-5 point capacitive screen, dont even bother getting the resistive screen specs.

-up to 32GB external micro SD can be inserted.

-There were some chinese apps that were built in, but they can be disabled easily from the settings. however, in my attempt to root the device (equivalent to jailbreak on ipads) i found that the device had already been rooted, it is possibly rooted to insert some of the chinese apps (assumption), but i gladly accepted the fact that it was already rooted as i needed to install some apps to increase the already amazing performance that this tablet has given me.

all in all, it is a very good tablet, i cannot wait for the new momo9 iii, i believe that it is almost equivalent to its predecessor but a difference in build and thickness.

Looked at this tablet after recommendations from relatives. It arrived on time and was well protected. I am delighted with the product, except for the fact that there were no instructions in English. Initially had a problem connecting to wi fi, so performed a factory reset, big mistake, as when it started up again it was in Chinese, however as I had already downloaded the user manual I managed to access the languages and got it back to English. It is very simple to use and dowloading apps from Google Play is very easy. The clarity of the screen is excellent and the sound is good. Overall I would recommend this product.
